Musicians are familiar with the problem: you're recording a source, but the signal is so weak, you have to push your fader past zero to get anything usable. This often results in nothing but noise. In situations like these, a solution can present itself in the form of a booster or DI box. Radial has therefore developed the McBoost, a signal enhancer that will add a 25dB boost to your dynamic or ribbon mic's signal. This is ideal for mixing consoles or audio interfaces that don't have enough gain on board to handle these kinds of situations.

McBoost: 100% discrete class A circuit

Radial McBoost's J-FET circuit is 100% discrete and contains two transistors that can deliver up to 25 dB of gain on top of the original source without noise or colouration. Each individual transistor is precisely measured and sorted to meet the very highest standards of quality. Like all Radial products, the circuit is then placed in an all-steel housing to keep external influences to a minimum. The McBoost is easy to connect via a 3-pin XLR plug, and is activated by 48-volt phantom power.

Three impedance settings and high-pass filters

The McBoost offers you a choice between three impedance settings to optimise the response using a 3-step high-pass filter. It lifts the signal and adds brightness and extra drive so that the long cables will have virtually no influence whatsoever on the total sound. The McBoost is more than just a tool for the studio. It can provide a dynamic microphone with the characteristics of a condenser mic, for example, which is great for live performances as well.
